Our Practice Areas

DIVORCE

Divorce can be traumatic, but with P&A by your side, your divorce will be as smooth and painless as possible. We have the experience and judgment to guide you through every step of the process, from filing the Complaint for Divorce to taking you to trial (if necessary) and drafting the resulting Divorce Decree.

PATERNITY

Paternity cases are like divorces where there is one (1) primary issue – the custody of your children. P&A is passionate about ensuring that the Family Court understands your children and makes the decisions that are truly in their best interest.

CUSTODY

Nothing is more important than ensuring your children are safe, cared for, and have the best opportunity to thrive. Hawaii applies the “best interest” standard to determine legal and physical custody, and P&A attorneys are experts at ensuring the Family Court understands your children’s needs and makes the right decisions for your family.

ABUSE/TRO's

Unfortunately, domestic violence is a common element of divorce and paternity cases, and you need an attorney skilled at prosecuting perpetrators and defending the falsely accused. P&A does not shy away from cases involving TRO’s and allegations of abuse against a parent of a child.

CHILD SUPPORT

Calculating child support can be a challenge because the Child Support Guidelines determine child support based on timesharing, gross income, credits (health insurance and daycare), and exceptional circumstances. You need an attorney who understands how all of these elements interact to ensure that you either receive or are charged the appropriate amount.

ENFORCEMENT

Whether your ex is breaking an order or falsely accusing you of doing the same, you need an aggressive advocate to enforce your rights. A substantial portion of our practice involves enforcing Family Court orders or defending against false allegations that have been broken.

POST-DECREE /
POST-JUDGMENT

Frequently, the Divorce Decree or Paternity Judgment does not end the conflict, and you have to go back to Court to modify the Court orders or to enforce them. P&A has the experience and expertise to guide you through this process.

MILITARY DIVORCE

Military divorces  involve unique issues such as: dividing military pensions, communicating with DFAS, interpreting an LES, processing an ERD, working with FAP, and understanding the PCS process. P&A has almost 30 years of experience assisting military members and their dependents.

CHILD WELFARE
SERVICES (CPS)

Many people are falsely accused of abusing their children, or they find themselves caught up in the child welfare system with no end in sight. We can help you avoid the Court’s jurisdiction all-together or bring a faster resolution to what seems like a never-ending process.

MEDIATION

The best litigators usually make some of the best mediators. Because we litigate family law cases, we know how the Family Court will adjudicate your case, and that knowledge gives us the insight to mediate your divorce or paternity matter and avoid the stress and heartache of trial.

ARBITRATION

Hawaii’s Family Courts are overburdened, and the litigation process is cumbersome, slow, and expensive. Arbitration can help parties achieve a fast, decisive, and cost-effective resolution to their divorce or paternity matter, and our attorneys are uniquely capable to decide the issues in your case.
